DP 800 exhibits a sophisticated dual phase microstructure consisting of approximately 70-80% soft ferrite matrix with 20-30% hard martensite islands. This unique microstructure is achieved through controlled thermomechanical processing and precise intercritical annealing at temperatures between 750-820°C, followed by rapid cooling to transform austenite to martensite while preserving the ferrite phase.

Manufacturing Process

The steel undergoes hot rolling at temperatures above 1100°C, followed by controlled cooling and coiling. Cold rolling reduction of 50-70% refines the microstructure before the critical continuous annealing process that develops the dual phase structure. Heat Treatment & Processing

The intercritical annealing process is precisely controlled with heating rates of 10-15°C/s to the annealing temperature, followed by soaking for 60-120 seconds. Cooling rates of 20-50°C/s through the transformation range ensure optimal martensite formation. Post-annealing tempering at 150-200°C may be applied to optimize ductility and reduce residual stresses.
