Metallurgical Characteristics

AISI 304H is an austenitic stainless steel with a face-centered cubic crystal structure. The higher carbon content (0.04-0.10%) compared to standard 304 grade provides enhanced creep resistance and improved mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. The austenitic microstructure is stabilized by the balanced chromium-nickel composition, ensuring excellent corrosion resistance and formability.

Heat Treatment Process

MetalZenith employs controlled solution annealing at temperatures between 1040-1120°C, followed by rapid cooling to achieve optimal microstructure. This process dissolves carbides and ensures uniform austenitic structure throughout the material. The controlled cooling rate prevents sensitization and maintains corrosion resistance properties.

Manufacturing Process Excellence

Our advanced manufacturing process begins with carefully selected raw materials melted in electric arc furnaces with precise temperature and atmosphere control. Secondary refining processes including AOD (Argon Oxygen Decarburization) ensure optimal chemical composition and cleanliness. Hot rolling, cold rolling, and precision finishing operations are performed under strict quality control to achieve desired mechanical properties and surface finish.

Comprehensive testing protocols include chemical analysis using optical emission spectrometry, mechanical testing per ASTM standards, intergranular corrosion testing (ASTM A262), and non-destructive examination including ultrasonic testing and dye penetrant inspection.

Corrosion Resistance & Performance

The 18-20% chromium content provides excellent general corrosion resistance, while the 8-10.5% nickel ensures austenitic stability and enhanced resistance to stress corrosion cracking. AISI 304H demonstrates superior performance in oxidizing environments and maintains structural integrity at temperatures up to 870°C in continuous service.
