Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI 1065 is a eutectoid high carbon steel with approximately 0.65% carbon content, placing it near the eutectoid composition. The microstructure in the annealed condition consists of pearlite with some ferrite, providing good machinability while maintaining adequate strength. Upon heat treatment, this steel develops a martensitic structure with excellent hardness and spring properties.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs precise heat treatment protocols for AISI 1065 steel. Austenitizing is performed at 790-820°C, followed by rapid quenching in oil or water to achieve full hardness. Tempering at 400-500°C provides the optimal balance of hardness, strength, and toughness for spring applications. Our controlled atmosphere furnaces ensure consistent results and minimal decarburization.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our manufacturing process begins with carefully selected raw materials melted in electric arc furnaces with precise chemistry control. Secondary refining processes including ladle metallurgy ensure optimal cleanliness and homogeneity. Hot rolling is performed using computer-controlled mills to achieve precise dimensions and superior surface quality. Cold drawing operations provide enhanced mechanical properties and dimensional accuracy.
