Product Overview

Metallurgical Characteristics

JIS SKD11 is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold work tool steel with exceptional wear resistance and dimensional stability. The steel's microstructure consists of a martensitic matrix with uniformly distributed chromium carbides (Cr7C3 and Cr23C6), providing superior abrasion resistance and edge retention. The high chromium content (11-13%) ensures excellent hardenability and corrosion resistance compared to conventional tool steels.

Heat Treatment Process

MetalZenith's optimized heat treatment protocol includes preheating to 650-700°C, austenitizing at 1000-1030°C in controlled atmosphere, followed by oil or air quenching to achieve 58-62 HRC. Tempering is performed at 150-200°C for maximum hardness or 450-550°C for improved toughness. Our vacuum heat treatment facilities ensure minimal decarburization and optimal dimensional stability.

Manufacturing Process

Our production process begins with electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing. The steel undergoes electroslag remelting (ESR) for enhanced cleanliness and homogeneity. Hot forging is performed using computer-controlled hydraulic presses to achieve optimal grain flow and mechanical properties. All products receive ultrasonic testing and dimensional inspection before shipment.
