Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN 1.2379 is a ledeburitic cold work tool steel characterized by its high carbon content (1.45-1.60%) and significant chromium content (11-13%). The steel's microstructure consists of a martensitic matrix with uniformly distributed chromium carbides, providing exceptional wear resistance and dimensional stability. The addition of molybdenum and vanadium enhances hardenability and grain refinement, contributing to improved toughness and cutting performance.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's optimized heat treatment process begins with stress relieving at 650-680°C, followed by hardening at 1000-1030°C in protective atmosphere or vacuum. Quenching is performed in oil or air depending on section size. Tempering is conducted at 150-520°C to achieve desired hardness levels between 58-62 HRC. Multiple tempering cycles ensure dimensional stability and stress relief.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our production process utilizes electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve optimal cleanliness. Continuous casting or ingot casting is followed by hot forging or rolling to break down the cast structure. Subsequent annealing at 840-860°C ensures optimal machinability and stress relief. Final processing includes precision machining, surface treatment, and comprehensive quality inspection.
Quality Standards & Testing
MetalZenith adheres to stringent quality standards including ISO 9001:2015, EN 10204 3.1 certification, and customer-specific requirements. Our testing protocols encompass chemical analysis via optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical property verification through tensile and hardness testing, ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness, and dimensional verification using coordinate measuring machines. Microstructural analysis ensures proper carbide distribution and grain size control.
