Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI O1 is a water-hardening tool steel with additions of tungsten and chromium that enhance its hardenability and allow for oil quenching. The steel exhibits a fine pearlitic microstructure in the annealed condition, transforming to martensite upon proper heat treatment. The tungsten content provides secondary hardening effects and improves wear resistance, while chromium enhances hardenability and corrosion resistance.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's optimized heat treatment protocol includes preheating to 650-700°C, followed by austenitizing at 780-800°C. Oil quenching provides optimal cooling rates to achieve maximum hardness of 60-64 HRC. Tempering at 150-200°C maintains high hardness, while higher tempering temperatures (400-500°C) improve toughness for impact applications. Our controlled atmosphere furnaces prevent decarburization and ensure consistent results.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our AISI O1 production utilizes electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve exceptional cleanliness. Continuous casting and controlled rolling ensure uniform microstructure and mechanical properties. Advanced process control systems monitor temperature, chemistry, and cooling rates throughout production. Post-processing includes precision machining, surface treatment, and comprehensive quality testing.
Quality Standards & Certifications
MetalZenith maintains ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and OHSAS 18001 certifications. Our AISI O1 complies with ASTM A681 specifications and undergoes rigorous testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM standards, and microstructural examination. Each shipment includes certified mill test certificates with full traceability documentation and compliance verification.
