Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
738H is a low-alloy steel with a tempered martensitic microstructure optimized for plastic mold applications. The steel contains aluminum for precipitation hardening, providing excellent through-hardness and dimensional stability. MetalZenith's controlled cooling and tempering processes ensure uniform carbide distribution and optimal grain structure.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs a sophisticated heat treatment cycle including austenitizing at 845-870°C, followed by controlled cooling and double tempering at 500-550°C. This process achieves the target hardness of 36-40 HRC while maintaining excellent toughness and machinability. Our computer-controlled furnaces ensure precise temperature uniformity and repeatability.
Manufacturing Process
Production begins with vacuum induction melting (VIM) using high-purity raw materials, followed by electroslag remelting (ESR) for enhanced cleanliness. The ingots undergo controlled forging and rolling to achieve optimal grain flow and mechanical properties. MetalZenith's advanced processing capabilities include precision machining, EDM compatibility testing, and custom heat treatment services.
Quality Standards & Testing
Every batch undergoes comprehensive quality control including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM standards, ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness, and dimensional verification. MetalZenith maintains full traceability documentation and provides certified test reports with each shipment, ensuring compliance with international mold steel specifications.
